Russia to inspect military installations in Norway

MOSCOW. Aug. 26 (Interfax-AVN) - A group of Russian military experts has arrived in Oslo to conduct an aerial monitoring of Norwegian military installations provided for by the Open Skies international treaty, a source at the Russian defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.

The source said that aerial monitoring of Norway's military installations and military units deployment sites will be performed with employment of an AN-30B Clank surveillance aircraft fitted with special optical and photo assets. The results of the inspection will be used for drawing up a special act as determined by the open Skies treaty.

The inspection is to be over on August 30.

The Open Skies International treaty was signed in Helsinki on March 24 1992 by 37 nations including Russia. Now the agreement is one of the principal documents making up the basis of the system of monitoring military units' deployment and military activities of signatory nations.
