Two militants killed in Chechnya

GROZNY. Aug 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Two rebels were killed by servicemen of the Interior Ministry and agents of the Federal Security Service in Nozhai-Yurt district of Chechnya.

"Based on what a resident said, an ambush was set up at a gang's expected rout near the Alleroi village to trap seven guerrillas, who appeared early in the morning," a source at the Interior Ministry department for Chechnya told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

"Refusing to surrender the guerrillas opened fire," the source said. Two paramilitary were destroyed in a shootout, while others managed to hide away in woods.

No casualty among military and policemen have been reported, the source said.

The militants left two Kalashnikov assault rifles with four cartridge-loaded clips, a pistol with its number effaced and carved words "to Akhmadov Ramzan - for bravery and courage. From President of Chechnya Maskhadov", sleeping bags, special vests, knives, field uniforms.
