ST.PETERSBURG. Aug 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Staff changes in the Leningrad military district did not reduce the potential of the district's rear services and their capabilities, Lieutenant General Vasily Khorkov, chief of the rear and deputy commander of the Leningrad military district in charge of the rear, said on Thursday.
"The money freed from those expenses is being primarily allocated for the manning of military units and officers as well as on the improvement of equipment for the rear," Khorkov told Interfax-Military News Agency.
He stressed that in the past half a year new technological equipment are repaired and installed in almost 20 social and cultural installations and 40 public catering establishments were opened. "A concrete example of social support to people can be considered the implementation of orders given by the district's commander Colonel General Valentin Bobryshev on the establishment of service centers in each compound where the servicemen are to be provided with everything they need. The district also faced a four-percent increase of survival packs with materiel in comparison with the year 2001. Taking into account extremely limited volumes of season clothes supplies the district is fully provided with clothes for spring and autumn," Khorkov went on.
He noted that missions aimed at the rear support to the district's troops, military units located on the territory and educational establishments are being accomplished by dozens of rear formations and offices.
"Several various purpose bases are busy with stocking and providing money, over 30 medical installations and military sanatoriums provide medical aid. The district hosts four agricultural enterprises. The whole rear structure within military units and compounds is being modernized," Khorkov added.
