MOSCOW. Aug 30 (Interfax-AVN) - It was a portable surface-to- air missile of Igla type that brought down a MI-26 Halo helicopter near Khankala, Chechnya, on August 19, a competent source in Russian law-enforcement agencies told Interfax on Friday quoting from the findings of the military prosecutor's office and state investigating commission.
Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov and Chief Military Prosecutor Alexander Savenkov will make an announcement to this effect later in the day, he said.
As many as 118 servicemen died in the crash.
