Criminal action against detained Arab to be carried out in Georgia

TBILISI. Aug 30 (Interfax-AVN) - A criminal action against an Arab terrorist detained in the Georgian Pankisi gorge in the course of a special operation will be carried out in Georgia.

"We plan to apply to all countries that can provide information aid in the investigation of the case against the detainee though the criminal action will be carried out in Georgia," Georgian Deputy State Security Minister Lasha Natsvlishvili told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

On Thursday Georgian State Security Minister Valery Khaburdzania did not rule out the extradition of the Arab to other countries when reporting about his detention and possible involvement in terrorist circles.

On Friday a source in the Georgian State Security Ministry told Interfax-AVN that the detainee's first interrogations confirmed his involvement in international terrorist organizations and illegal activities in Georgia.

"The information needs to be checked but it provides for speaking about the Arab's relations with Al-Qaeda and Chechen guerillas," Natsvlishvili said.

He added that "according to preliminary data, the detainee was involved in terrorist organizations related with Al-Qaeda."
