NIZHNY NOVGOROD. Sept 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Major General Platoshin, aviation chief of a federal border guard unit in Tajikistan, was shot dead on Moscow-Kazan highway in Chuvashia autonomous republic's Tsivilsk district on Saturday, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry's main department for the Volga region told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
"It occurred at about 17:00 Moscow time (1300 GMT). While Platoshin was driving a Mercedes, his passenger, a 24 year old Ivanova, accidentally fired from a PSM Makarov pistol wounding her left arm and hitting General's chest. Platoshin died from the wound received," the spokesman said.
Ivanova was detained and a criminal case was initiated based on causing inadvertent death.
