TBILISI. Sept 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgia's law-enforcement agencies are completing military activities to reinforce the northern part of the Georgia-Russia border, a source at the Georgian State Border Guard Department told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"No new guard posts have been set up along the Chechen and Ingush straps of the border so far because of bad weather, however, all guard posts we have now are already reinforced with additional troops," the Georgian Border Guard Force's Chief-of- Staff Colonel Kornely Salia told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
Salia did not reveal the number of the additional troops to strengthen the border, saying "it depends upon operational needs." According to him, "no border violations have been reported at these border parts of late."
As far as Russian and Georgian border cooperation is concerned Salia said that "communication with the Russian side is mainly unilateral and, unfortunately, established by Georgian border guards."
The source avoided answering if Georgian border guards have data on the guerrilla presence in the Pankisi gorge, who could attempt to cross the Russian border. He referred to the fact that an anti-criminal operation was underway in the Pankisi gorge and making such data public might affect the operation.
