Russian border guards fight border violators from Afghanistan

DUSHANBE. Sept 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian border guards fought with a number of border violators from Afghanistan in the early hours of Tuesday.

The incident took place on a mountain section monitored by the Moscow border guard unit.

The group of six offenders did not obey an order to stop and opened fire on the border guards, the press service of the Federal Border Guard Service unit based in Tajikistan told Interfax.

More servicemen from the border checkpoint arrived 15 minutes after the start of the shoot-out. The border violators, taking advantage of the hilly terrain and darkness, managed to flee. An examination of the area has been underway since early morning, the press service said.

An attack on a local resident house was prevented in the area of responsibility of the Khorog border guard detachment.

A group of up to seven strangers broke into the house of a Tishor village resident and beaten up a woman inside. The village residents applied to border guards asking to protect them from the hooligans. An urgent group from a nearby border guard checkpoint headed by an officer arrived at the site.

"Only after decisive actions of the detachment's servicemen the conflict development was prevented. The strangers ran away," the press service said.
