SHALI/GROZNY. Sept 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechnya's Shali military officials say that seven policemen in the district center of Shali were killed by a shaped-charge mine blast on Tuesday night.
"The policemen were in a KAMAZ truck on their way back home after a special operation along with chief of staff of Shali military kommandatura. They were coming from villages Chiri-Yurt and Avtury. A mine blast that followed killed seven policemen from Shali Interior department and injured 11people who are now at a Khankala hospital," a spokesman for the military prosecutor's office in the Shali district told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.
He said that experts defined the accident as a shaped-charge mine blast.
He opposed to local officials accusing military.
"Artillery units were operating in the area but we don't have information suggesting that an artillery projectile hit policemen-load truck," he said.
A spokesman for the 42nd motorized rifle division also confirmed the mine blast in Shali and was surprised with what local officials said.
An investigation team comprising Shali military kommandatura chief Major-General Gennady Nakhaev, military attorney officers, Interior Affairs Ministry officials and Federal Security Service officials have arrived at the place of accident.
