Russian, Georgian defense experts to begin probe into August 23 bombing

MOSCOW. Sept 4 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian and Georgian military experts are about to begin a joint investigation into the August 23 bombing of the Pankisi Gorge.

"On Thursday, a group of the Russian Defense Ministry generals and officers will fly to Tbilisi where, together with Georgian colleagues, they will take part in the probe into the bombing in Pankisi," a spokesman for the ministry told Interfax- Military News Agency.

The General Staff has decided to dispatch experts to Pankisi. Previously, Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov reaffirmed Russia's readiness to participate in the joint investigation.

On August 23, Tbilisi reported that Russian warplanes bombed Georgian territory. At least four Russian Su-25 fighter jets delivered the air strike, Tbilisi said. One civilian was killed and three were injured in the bombing.

Russia categorically denied accusations related to the attack.
