MOSCOW. Sept 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The military prosecutor's office has opened a criminal case after a large number of servicemen left a unit based in the North Caucasus military district.
"A total of 54 servicemen left the military unit. In doing so, they wanted to ask military prosecutors for assistance," the press service of the military prosecutor's office reported on Tuesday.
The military prosecutor's office officials noted that they do not consider this incident as desertion and are ready to investigate the actions of officials which might be regarded as having abused their authority.
The military prosecutor's office said that the chief military prosecutor has taken the case under his control.
