TBILISI. Sept 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Regardless of the possibility of Russia's infliction of strikes on guerilla bases in Georgia the Georgian Interior Ministry did not make changes in the plan on holding the anti-criminal operation in the Pankisi gorge.
"The anti-criminal operation that started in the Pankisi gorge on August 25 is underway in accordance with the plan and Russia's president statement on the country's right for self- defense did not make any corrections in the sphere," Interior Ministry troops commander Georgy Shervashidze told Interfax- Military News Agency on Thursday.
According to him, "at present the gorge hosts mobile patrol groups of the Interior Ministry troops and police forces, the number of strongpoints on the territory is enough, no guerilla groups were found in the Pankisi gorge."
"It is impossible to let law-enforcement agencies from other countries be involved in the operation," Shervashidze said.
He added that "the gorge's population supports efforts of Georgian law-enforcers though it is disturbed by a Russian statement on the possible infliction of strikes in Georgia."
