Georgia might extradite 13 Chechen guerillas if Russia doesn't sentences them to death

TBILISI. Sept 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgia is prepared to extradite 13 suspected Chechen guerrillas who were detained with arms in their hands at the Georgian-Russian border in early August, chief of the international legal department of the Georgian Prosecutor General's Office Paata Mskhiladze told the press on Tuesday.

However, Georgia can demand that Moscow guarantee that these people will not be sentenced to death after the extradition, Mskhiladze said.

"One of the charges brought against the detained Chechens is the attempt to murder servicemen and law enforcement officials, which is a grave crime and is punished by the death penalty under Russian law," he noted.
