GROZNY. Sept 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen rebels opened fire on the police station in the village of Belorechye in the republic's Gudermes district.
Fire was opened from assault rifles and grenade launchers, a source in the local interior department told Interfax on Friday.
He said that in the early hours of Friday, a group of 20-25 rebels entered the village. The military commandant's office had to open mortar fire to disperse and drive the rebels from the village.
The village administration told Interfax that the rebels attacked some local families. Villagers tried to force the rebels to leave the village. One local resident was killed, and a teenager was wounded. Efforts are underway to identify the assailants.
In the Achkhoi-Martan district, rebels entered the house of local resident Andi Keromov and killed him. The local interior department said they were searching for the brother of the victim, who is a police officer.
