One man killed, six injured in MI-8T helicopter crash in Kazakhstan

ALMATY. Sept 20 (Interfax-Kazakhstan) - One crew member was killed and another six were injured when an MI-8T Hip helicopter belonging to the Kazakh National Security Committee's border guard service crashed in Kazakhstan.

"The incident occurred near the town of Uch-Aral (in the Almaty region) during exercises," the border guard department's press service told Interfax on Friday.

The press service said that the navigator died from injuries while in the hospital.

Six crew members sustained injuries and were taken to a military hospital. They are currently in stable condition.

A commission is working on the scene of the crash. The press service failed to announce even tentative data on possible causes of the incident.

According to military sources, the helicopter fell from an altitude of 10 to 15 meters while making its final approach.

The incident happened two days ago, but the Kazakh media learned about it only on Friday.
