STAVROPOL. Sept 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Border guards of the North Caucasus regional department have detained over 13,500 people for various violations this year, the department's press service reported on Tuesday.
"The latest detention took place on Monday. A 39-year-old man attempting to leave Russia with fake documents was detained in the Verkhny Lars checkpoint in the afternoon by a border patrol of the Vladikavakaz detachment. In line with the decision of the patrol's acting commander the violator was detained for two days and investigation was launched," a press service official told Interfax- Military News Agency.
A total of some 3.8 million people have crossed the border through the department's checkpoints this year.
"The search for missing border guards from the Karmadon post is underway. The post's patrol consisting of Junior Sergeant Yevgeny Pronin, who was drafted from the Altai territory in November last year, and Private Yevgeny Shchekalev, who was drafted from the Nizhny Sergiyev district of the Sverdlovsk region in summer 2001, were serving in the area of the avalanche. The missing soldiers carried two assault rifles, cartridges for them, a signal pistol and a radio set. The personnel of the Karmadon post is not evacuated and no damages were caused to the installation," the official said.
At a request from the North Ossetian leadership and Emergencies Ministry, servicemen of the Vladikavkaz detachment are involved in the elimination of consequences of the avalanche and supporting flights of the ministry's aviation.
