GROZNY. Sept 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Rebels in Chechnya's Shali and Gudermes districts have received a shipment of communication equipment.
"Portable radios and gadgets jamming radio lines, including the ones between helicopter crews, have been shipped from Georgia across Ingushetia," a source in the regional operational headquarters on Chechnya campaign told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
Chechen law enforcement departments have information indicating that Chechen extremists receive communication equipment and other kinds of equipment from Georgia's Pankisi Gorge, the source said.
"Warlords Maskhadov, Basayev and Abu al-Valid are trying to establish a single communication system that could wnable guerillas to coordinate their actions in Chechnya," the source stressed.
Last week, technical assets of the unified federal troops group in the North Caucasus registered two satellite telephone calls from Chechnya and Ingushetia to users outside Russia. "In particular, Ruslan Gelayev communicated with various people three times using a satellite telephone on September 26 and 27," a source in the operational group on the elimination of the rebel gang in Ingushetia told Interfax-AVN.
A source in the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-AVN that federal forces destroyed a cache with communication means and office appliances in the Urus-Martan district of Chechnya in the beginning of last week.
