Russia-U.S. arms reduction treaty may be submitted for ratification in October

MOSCOW. Oct 1 (Interfax-AVN) - Andrei Nikolayev, who chairs the State Duma's defense committee, expressed hopes that President Vladimir Putin will submit the Russian-U.S. Treaty on Strategic Offensive Reductions to the State Duma for ratification by the end of October.

"We hope the president will submit the treaty to the State Duma for ratification by the end of October, should nothing unexpected occur," Nikolayev told journalists on Tuesday.

The treaty was signed by the presidents of Russia and the U.S. in Moscow in May. On Tuesday, the State Duma held preliminary hearings on the treaty.
