Some 17,000 graduates of higher military educational establishments join Russian army this year

MOSCOW. Oct 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Some 17,000 officers who have graduated from the higher educational establishments of the Defense Ministry this year are sent to the armed forces to continue service.

"After the arrival of graduates to the troops, the total level of the Armed Forces' manning with officers exceeds 90 percent," a source in the ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday. According to him, "the lack of officers is explained by a decrease in the number of graduates of educational establishments registered this year, as well as a growing number of people who file early resignations from the Armed Forces."

The source stressed that demands of permanent readiness units and formations, the North Caucasus, Siberian and Far Eastern military districts, the Northern and Pacific Fleets were the first to be taken into account during the distribution of the graduates.

All vacancies of officers are filled in the Airborne Troops. Three percent of officers' posts are vacant in the Navy and six percent in the Air Force.

Officers have graduated from 56 higher educational establishments of the Defense Ministry this year. Over 1,500 graduates have been sent to serve in other federal executive bodies of the country.
