Three militants killed in Grozny

GROZNY. Oct 7 (Interfax-AVN) - A car explosion in the Chechen capital killed three militants who were trying to escape from a unit of the Combined Federal Forces, which was pursuing them, Colonel Ilya Shabalkin, a spokesman for the headquarters of the Combined Federal Forces in the North Caucasus, told Interfax on Monday.

He said that the identities of the militants have been established and that their names are known. All three belonged to the gang of killed warlord Islam Chalayev.

The colonel said that the militants were trained at Khattab's camps and were top class bomb planting specialists. All three were wanted for several terrorist acts in Grozny.
