Russia has no information about planned rebel breakthrough into Georgia

STAVROPOL. Oct 8 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Federal Border Guard Service has no information about rebel plans of breaking through from Chechnya and Ingushetia into Georgia.

"There have been no and there hardly will be any attempts by rebel groups to break through from Russia to Georgia," chief of staff of the North Caucasus regional border guard department Lieutenant General Valery Putov told Interfax on Tuesday.

"For a year all Chechen rebels' inroad attempts came from Georgia to Russia, not the other way around," he said.

All Georgian claims that rebels may enter Georgia from Russia "are nothing but an attempt to shirk responsibility," he said.

On Monday head of the Georgian State Border Guard Department Lieutenant General Valery Chkheidze told the press that rebel formations in Chechnya and Ingushetia will try to break through to Georgia. "The information has been confirmed by Georgian special services. Their Russian counterparts are also likely to have it," he said.
