Russian military delegation to attend symposium of Western Pacific Navies in Japan

MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax-AVN) - A Russian military delegation led by Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Viktor Fedorov will leave for Japan on Tuesday to attend a symposium of Western Pacific Navies and to take part in the naval parade timed to the 50th anniversary of the Japanese Self-Defense Force, a competent source in the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"Since November 1996, Russia has been a permanent member of a regional organization that unites the Navies of 17 countries of the region. Japan hosts the organization's traditional symposium, its seventh, this year. The symposium coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Japanese Self-Defense Force. The Pacific Fleet commander will speak at a seminar and take part in the anniversary celebrations," the source said.

He stressed that a naval parade involving some 50 vessels from 15 countries including Russia will be held in the Tokyo Bay on October 13.

"The Pacific Fleet will be represented at the parade by the Varyag guard missile cruiser under command of Colonel Dmitry Polozov, a diesel electric submarine uncer command of Captain Valery Miron and a missile boat under command of Lieutenant Captain Alexander Boroznov," the source added.

The delegation will return to Russia on October 15 and the military vessel group will be home on October 20.
