TALLINN. Oct 8 (Interfax-AVN) - The Navies of the Baltic states are engaged in the Amber Sea 2002 exercise that is aimed at protecting Estonian ports.
The war games involve the Baltran mine-clearance squadron, a group of deep-sea divers from the Estonian Navy, a coast guard company, the Kaitseliit militia teams from Harju and Tallinn, a spokesman for the Estonian Navy Staff told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.
"The aim of the exercise is to practice joint actions to protect coast bases and ports from possible enemy attacks," the spokesman said.
The Estonian Navy Staff oversees the war games. Officers from Latvia, Lithuania and the United States are working in the staff. General supervision over the training is exercised by Estonian Navy Commander Senior Lieutenant Akhti Pijrimyaga.
The war games will end on Saturday.
