Main combat training department starts checking 31st airborne brigade in Volga region

MOSCOW. Oct 15 (Interfax-AVN) - A group of officers and generals led by chief of the Armed Forces main combat training department Colonel General Alexander Skorodumov started the final check of combat training results for the training year 2002 in the 31st permanent-readiness separate airborne brigade on Tuesday, a competent source in the Airborne Staff told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"The final check of combat readiness in the 31st brigade will end on October 25. The main attention will be paid to combat training, mobilization readiness, service or troops, security of military service, and organization of everyday activities in units of the brigade," the source said.

"Originally the 31st brigade was excluded from the inspection plan for it had just hosted two-month preparations for a training session of the Armed Forces leadership but the General Staff put it on the list of units to be inspected at the last moment," the source said.

The 31st brigade under command of Colonel Nikolai Nikulnikov is headquartered in the city of Ulyanovsk in the middle straits of the Volga river.

"The final inspection has already ended in the 7th airborne division headquartered in the city of Novorossiysk but its results have not been announced," the source said.
