Moscow doesn't jump to conclusions about Pyongyang's nuclear program

MOSCOW. Oct 18 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov has said Russia is not ready so far to draw any concrete conclusions from reports that North Korea has a nuclear program.

"In order to draw any conclusions, especially far-reaching ones, one should have objective information. So far we only have Korean] deputy minister confirmed something to a U.S. special envoy," Ivanov told a Friday news conference at the Interfax main office.

He voiced hopes that in the near future, Russia will receive more objective information on this subject. For instance, it hopes to get more details from U.S. Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security John Bolton, who is coming to Moscow for a visit.

"We also hope to receive information from Pyongyang," Ivanov said.

He stressed that Russia favors strengthening the nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction. "And this applies to all countries," he said.
