GROZNY. Oct 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechnya's Interior Affairs Directorate has not seen an increase in the guerilla activity in Chechnya after the hostage taking in Moscow.
"The situation in Chechnya has not changed much over the past 24 hours. Rebels have attacked federal forces three times. In particular, they fired at checkpoints in the Staropromyslovsky and destroyed one rebel," a source at the Interior Affairs Directorate told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.
Another attack was reported in the Kurchaloi district. Rebels fired at the checkpoint guarded by a special-purpose police squad from the Mordovian autonomous republic.
"Three policemen have been seriously wounded in the engagement. Casualties among the attackers are not clear yet," a source at the military commandant's office of the Kurchaloi district said. According to him, the situation in the district is under control.
A source at the 46th separate operational-purpose brigade told Interfax-AVN that one soldier had been killed and three injured in a booby-trap blast as they were fulfilling a tactical mission overnight to Thursday.
