Russian chief-of-staff orders guard reinforcement at vital installations in Chechnya

KHANKALA. Oct 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The Combined Federal Forces in the North Caucasus are taking additional measures to guard installations, populated localities, military commandant's officers and village police stations in Chechnya, a source at the headquarters of the forces told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

"Russian Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff Anatoly Kvashnin gave a corresponding order to Combined Federal Forces Commander Lieutenant General Sergei Makarov before leaving Khankala late on Wednesday. Kvashnin also ordered additional measures to destroy illegal armed formations and maintain security zones in temporary stationing areas of the forces' units, including vital state installations. Guard has been reinforced at oil wells and railways. Special- purpose military teams, army aviation helicopters and Interior Ministry troops units are engaged in guard reinforcement. They are acting in cooperation with the Chechen police," the source said.
