Ukrainian, NATO military to discuss army reform

KYIV. Oct 25 (Interfax-AVN) - A joint Ukrainian-NATO working group on military reform issues will start a session in Yalta, the Crimean Peninsula, on October 28, the press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said on Friday.

The Ukrainian group is led by Deputy Secretary of the National Defense and Security Council Serhiy Pyrozhkov, and NATO officials by Edgar Buchkley, assistant secretary general for defense planning and operations, the press service told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The Ukrainian group also includes Colonel General Viktor Bannykh, the Defense Ministry's state secretary for international cooperation.

The session will address a broad range of issues related to Ukrainian-NATO relations, the press service said. In particular, the officials will analyze the progress in the Ukrainian Armed Forces reform, parliamentary control over the activity of the Armed Forces and other military formations, and experience in the state security reform.

"Legal aspects of the military reform, problems in the scrapping of outdated and excessive armament and ammunition that become useless in the course of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reform, military education and training of military personnel will be among other important issues on the agenda," the press service said.
