MOSCOW. Oct 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Air force and air defense units of the CIS started command post training on Tuesday, Chief- of-Staff of the Russian Air Force Colonel General Boris Cheltsov told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"The maneuvers are held in the framework of the CIS Unified Air Defense System," Cheltsov said. They involve Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine.
"Participants in the training are planning to work on more than 10 issues. Interaction of on-duty air defense forces and assets in case of a violation of the CIS aerial borders is the key issue," Cheltsov said.
According to him, more than 3,000 servicemen, over 50 aircraft and over 300 various assets are engaged in the training.
The maneuvers are peculiar for involvement of air force and air defense units of the Russian Baltic Fleet, TU-22 Blinder long- range bombers and A-50 Mainstay radar surveillance and picket planes.
Russian Air Force Commander Vladimir Mikhailov supervises the war games that will last for one day.
The training is pre-planned. Events of that kind happen twice a year, Cheltsov said.
