MOSCOW. Oct 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has confirmed that Akhmed Zakayev, a representative of Chechen separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov, has been detained in Denmark.
Head of the Department for International Law of the Prosecutor General's Office Robert Adelkhanian told Interfax that Zakayev was detained by the Danish authorities in Copenhagen on Wednesday, and his extradition is being considered in court. This information has been received through diplomatic channels, Adelkhanian said.
Reports that Zakayev had been entered on the international wanted list were passed to the Danish authorities through the Russian Foreign Ministry, he said.
Zakayev, a Chechen separatist leader, was entered on the international wanted list in October 2001, in connection with an investigation into an armed rebellion in Chechnya.
