MOSCOW. Nov 6 (Interfax-AVN) - A museum made on a diesel electric submarine of Project 641B (NATO classification Tango) that is withdrawn from the Russian Navy and disarmed will open in the quay of Hamburg on Saturday, the press service of the Rosoboronexport state-owned arms trader reported.
After expiring its service terms the submarine was withdrawn from the Northern Fleet, disarmed and determined in the state order for scrapping through the arms trader.
On June 26, 2002 the submarine was bought by the German company of Miliber Konsult GmbH bases in Berlin in order to use it as a museum. On August 6 the submarine was towed to Germany.
This is the second vessel purchased by Germany for museum purposes. Starting from 1997 the Maritime museum in the town of Penemund is demonstrating a diesel electric submarine of Project 651 (NATO classification Juliet).
According to the press service, the solemn ceremony of the museum opening will involve officials of the Hamburg federal land government, Russian embassy in Berlin, Russian Navy, public organizations, military-historical societies and mass media.
The arms trader together with the Defense Ministry are ready to propose as museum exhibits small-arms, artillery and tanks made before WWII in 1891-1910, 1930-1944. Those are Shpagin and Sudayev sniper rifles and machine-guns, Maxim machine-guns, Degtyaryov portable machine-guns, TT pistols, Nagan revolvers, carbines, ZIS-2 57mm, ZIS-3 76mm, M-30 122mm antitank cannons, SU- 76, TU-100, ISU-152 self-propelled systems, T-34, IS-2, IS-3 tanks, etc. Many of those exhibits were rival to foreign analogues judging from their specifications.
