GROZNY. Nov 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Some 90 kamikazes are getting ready to carry out subversive and terrorist acts in the Chechen capital.
"According to reconnaissance data, guerilla groups in Grozny include up to 90 kamikazes. Rebels recruit them among extremist widows and marginal elements," a source in the regional operational headquarters in charge of the Chechnya campaign told Interfax- Military News Agency on Tuesday.
The rate of subversive and terrorist activities remains high in Grozny. The backbone of rebel groups operating practically in every city district have legal documents. Many rebels have obtained authentic identification papers, the source said.
He stressed that the Zavodskoi district is the most troubled in city. In addition to planting landmines, extremists continue to fire at police strongpoints and life support installations there.
A source in the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-AVN on Monday that rebel group leaders are planning to hold a series of large-scale terrorist acts against federal forces and local authorities in Chechnya in the near future.
"Rebels are fully engaged in preparations for terrorist acts and recruitment of kamikaze terrorists, including women and teenagers," the source said.
He stressed that federal forces together with local law- enforcement agencies were holding pin-point operations in various districts of the troubled republic in order to prevent the terrorist acts.
"There is information that guerillas are planning terrorist acts, including those outside Chechnya," the source noted.
He added that "federal forces are holding special operations near the Chechen administrative border with Russia's internal republics of Ingushetia and Dagestan."
