GROZNY. Nov 13 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal forces in Chechnya have prevented three major acts of terrorism in the past 24 hours, spokesman for the regional headquarters for the antiterrorist operation in the North Caucasus Colonel Ilya Shabalkin told Interfax on Wednesday.
Servicemen found a powerful radio-controlled landmine consisting of a mortar round with a caliber of 82 millimeters powered with TNT on a road between Kurchaloi and Bachi-Yurt. Sappers neutralized the mine by blowing it up on the site.
The use of the special mobile system Antiterrorist has produced positive results in the past 24 hours, Shabalkin said.
A guerilla was killed while connecting a power supply unit to a landmine on the road connecting Argun and Kadi-Yurt. He has not yet been identified, as his body was severely destroyed by the blast.
Another homemade explosive device discovered with the use of special equipment was blown up on a road running from the district center of Shelkovskaya to Grozny. Federal forces who arrived at the scene found a large crater and parts of two presumed guerillas, Shabalkin said.
