MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Issues relating to military transit through Lithuania to the Kaliningrad region are a subject of bilateral Russian-Lithuanian agreements, Russian presidential envoy to the Kaliningrad region Dmitry Rogozin told Interfax.
This issue was not addressed during the Russian-EU summit held in Brussels on Monday, Rogozin said.
"The EU, which is not a military structure, originally took this issue out of the negotiation process," Rogozin said.
Ensuring military transit when Lithuania enters the EU will require an additional agreement with this country, and Russia has already made the corresponding proposals, he said.
Rogozin believes that the amount of military cargo going to the Kaliningrad region through Lithuania will decrease significantly in the near future. "It will be done first of all by stopping the transit of food and some other industrial products and fuel and lubricants for military needs because it is planned to sign the corresponding contracts with new nearer suppliers," the envoy said.
As to the transit of military personnel themselves, Rogozin said these issues will be resolved based on bilateral agreements with Lithuania. "We have our proposals and ways of solving this problem," Rogozin said.
