BEIJING. Nov 18 (Interfax-China) - Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma said Ukraine is interested in working together with China in the high-technology and defense industry spheres and has high hopes for the development of Ukrainian-Chinese cooperation in the sphere of aviation.
While meeting with Liu Jibin, minister of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, on his visit to China on Monday, Kuchma said that Ukraine has considerable experience in this area and is prepared to work on projects with China.
Liu said it is important to develop cooperation with Ukraine in the hi-tech sphere and noted considerable progress in cooperation in the space industry.
This cooperation is governed by the agreement on the use of space for peaceful purposes, presidential press secretary Olena Hromnytska told reporters.
Dozens of projects in this area are being developed, the Chinese minister said. Liu placed special emphasis on cooperation in shipbuilding and in the training of specialists, Hromnytska said.
China is especially interested in cooperating with Ukraine in the area of aviation, in which Ukraine has great potential, Liu said.
