SHARAPOVO, Moscow Region. Nov 19 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian center for training nuclear safety experts has the world's most advanced technologies and training equipment, Dr. Stephen Younger, director of the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency, told reporters on Tuesday.
Training facilities of the Russian Defense Ministry's 84th inter-branch center are created and fitted thanks to funds provided by the United States in the framework of the Threat Reduction Program. Younger visited the center worth approximately USD36m on Tuesday.
An electronic training rifle range worth USD2m has been commissioned at the center recently. The U.S. company FATS supplied equipment for the rifle range on order from the Russian party. The Russian office of the Raytheon company installed and adjusted the equipment. It is planning to install similar systems in 60 installations of the Russian Defense Ministry.
Younger told Interfax-Military News Agency that the Defense Threat Reduction Agency is satisfied with the cooperation programs it is implementing together with Russia.
Progress in equipping the Russian training center was made possible thanks to joint efforts and use of technologies from Russia and the United States, he said.
Younger visited the center as the head of a military expert delegation in the framework of the Threat Reduction Program.
