Collective Security Treaty Organization to become operational after ratification of regulatory documents

MOSCOW. Nov 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The Collective Security Treaty Organization will act as an independent body after its regulatory documents and the legal status are ratified by parliaments of the nations signatories to the treaty, Secretary General of the Collective Security Council Valery Nikolayenko said on Thursday.

"The Collective Security Treaty Organization, whose charter and legal status were approved at the CIS summit in Chisinau in October this year, will start acting as an independent regional body after national parliaments of the nations signatories to the treaty ratify its regulatory documents. We are hoping that it will happen in April or May next year, when Bishkek will host the next summit of the Collective Security Treaty attended by presidents," Nikolayenko told a news conference.

A council of lawmakers of the nations signatories to the treaty is operating under the auspices of the CIS inter- parliamentary assembly, he said.

"The council is engaged in finalization of all political and legal documents pertaining to the Collective Security Treaty Organization," Nikolayenko said.
