KHANKALA. Nov 21 (Interfax-AVN) - A large base intended for housing a guerilla group of up to 100 people was destroyed near the Duba-Yurt village in the Grozny rural district of Chechnya.
"Signs of rebel presence were found, and a large cache with ammo and foodstuffs exposed and destroyed in the vicinity of the base," a source in the 42nd motorized rifle division headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.
He said "bandit groups hiding in the Argun gorge were cut away from supplies of arms, ammo, explosives and portable radio communication means during search operations."
Moreover, a military mobile group eliminated over one tonne of rebel foodstuffs.
"The search operation that lasted for two weeks resulted in the destruction of about 15 rebels," the source stressed.
Military mobile groups engaged in a special operation near the Ulus-Kert, Dachu-Borzoi and Kharsenoi villages have destroyed over 10 caches with arms and ammo this month, the source noted.
He said that several units of the division set additional observation posts near the Khankala military base on Thursday. "The measure is related to escalation of activity of Chechen extremists who threaten us with holding sabotage and terrorist acts against the headquarters of law-enforcement agencies located in Khankala," the source added.
