Special army force kills prominent Chechen rebel

MOSCOW. Nov 25 (Interfax-AVN) - A special army force in Chechnya has killed Islam Luluyev, one of the so-called Barayev ten, a source at the headquarters of the federal force in the North Caucasus told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.

Luluyev is the ninth member of the Barayev ten to be killed. Eight were killed earlier and the search for the tenth continues, the source said

Movsar Barayev himself was killed during a special operation to free hostages in a Moscow theater in October.

According to the source, Luluyev took part in the public execution of 32 Chechens in Grozny in 1996. He participated in the attack on a federal convoy in August 2001, which resulted in the death of several servicemen. Moreover, he organized the murder of two Chechen policemen in February 2002.
