TBILISI. Nov 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian Ambassador to Turkmenistan and Afghanistan Petre Chkheidze has made an official request to Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov for data on possible participation of Georgian citizens on the assassination attempt on President Saparmurad Niyazov.
In a telephone conversation with Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday, Chkheidze quoted Meredov as saying that the Turkmen Foreign Ministry was drafting an official statement on the matter.
Chief of the international information department in the Turkmen presidential staff Serdar Durdyev earlier told a briefing in Ashgabat that four participants in the attempt are ethnic Georgians who are not citizens of Turkmenistan.
Georgian diplomatic sources later said that the information of Georgians' complicity in the attempt was not confirmed.
