Minsk to host MILEX-2003 arms show

MINSK. Nov 27 (Interfax-AVN) - A second international arms show, MILEX-2003, is to be held at the Belexpo exhibition center in Minsk from May 13-16, 2003.

Belexpo Director General Alexei Lazutko said at a news conference in Minsk on Wednesday that about 100 Russian, Belarussian and Ukrainian companies have confirmed their plans to take part in the arms show.

Russia will be represented by the Alexandrov-based Rekord R&D Institute of Television Equipment, Kovrov instrument engineering plant, Klimov press plant, Bryansk chemical plant, Barnaul machine tool plant, Kaluga-based R&D Institute of Telemechanical Devises, Novosibirsk low-voltage equipment plant, Nizhny Tagil Metals Testing Institute and several other companies.

Ukraine will be represented by the Ukrspetsexport state- owned company exporting and importing military and special- purpose goods and services.

Also participating in the show will be the Beltekhexport, Belspetsvneshtekhnika and Belvneshpromservis companies, 140th repair plant, 558th aircraft repair plant, 2566th radio- electronic armament repair plant, Belarussian State University of Computer Science and Radio-Electronics, and other enterprises from Belarus.

Exhibits will be divided in the following sections: "Weapons and Military Hardware", "Hi-Tech Equipment and Systems", "Optronic Equipment and Systems", "Technical Assets and Systems of Troops Supply", "Information and Data Protection Systems", "Arms and Ammunition", "Transport Vehicles", "Piloting, Navigation and Automatic Control Systems", "Dual-Purpose Technologies and Assets", "Road Construction and Cargo Vehicles and Mechanisms, Rescue Assets for Work in Emergency Situations and Natural Disasters, Fire-Fighting Means".

A conference on the military-technical aspects of defense and security and on the utilization of dual-purpose technologies will be held within the framework of the exhibition.

Weapons and military hardware will be demonstrated at a special testing ground, Lazuko noted.
