Local deputy chief of criminal police killed in Urus-Martan, Chechnya

GROZNY. Nov 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Local deputy chief of criminal police Amsudi Khovkayev was gunned down in Urus-Martan, a Chechen district center, in the early hours on Thursday.

Gunmen fired a Kalashnikov assault rifle and a Stechkin automatic pistol when the man was returning home, district administration chief Shirvani Yasayev told Interfax.

The town has been cordoned off, Yasayev said. Only police officers and senior district administration officials are allowed to go through checkpoints.

The entire district police force and investigators from the republic's agencies are engaged in the hunt for the assassins, Yasayev said.

He said that Bakhayev, the district's deputy interior director, was shot dead nearly two weeks ago.
