Russia announces winners of Gold Idea prize

MOSCOW. Nov 29 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Committee on Military and Technical Cooperation with Foreign States has announced winners of the Gold Idea 2001 annual national prize.

The prize is given for the best achievements in export- oriented defense, the committee's press service told Interfax- Military News Agency on Friday.

As far as contribution to the development of export-oriented military hardware is concerned, the Almaz federal state unitary enterprise (corporate authors from Almaz, the Academician Krylov Central R&D Institute, and St. Petersburg State Maritime Technical University) won the first prize, the Ural Optic- Mechanical Plant the second prize, and the Ramenskoye Instrumentation Design Bureau the third prize.

As far as contribution to the production of export-oriented military hardware is concerned, the Splav federal state-owned unitary enterprise (corporate authors from Splav and the Novosibirsk Artificial Fiber Plant) won the first prize, the Uralvagonzavod state-owned unitary enterprise the second prize, and the Rostvertol JSO the third prize.

As far as personal contribution to the development of military-technical cooperation is concerned, Nikolai Malykh, Uralvagonzavod director general, won the first prize, Sergei Vasiliev, director general of the Kupol Electromechanical Plant, the second prize, and Arkady Shipunov, designer/director general of the KBP state-owned enterprise, the third prize.

The prize for the best investment project in military- technical cooperation was not given to anybody.

Honor certificates for achievements in military-technical cooperation, development and production of state-of-the-art military hardware will be given to Olga Yedemskaya, designer I rank of the Sukhoi design bureau, Sergei Zubarev, designer II rank of Kupol, Valery Rostovtsev, designer II rank of KBP, Andrey Terlikov, senior designer of the Ural design bureau of transport machine building, and Oleg Tretyakov, laboratory chief of the Defense Ministry's 1st Central Research Institute.

The awards ceremony will be held in Moscow on December 10.
