Putin, Jiang say happy with talks

BEIJING. Dec 2 (Interfax-China) - Russian President Vladimir Putin described his talks on Monday with his Chinese counterpart, Jiang Zemin, as "very serious and productive."

"The situation in the world and in our countries is developing dynamically and changes that are taking place should be taken into account," Putin told a briefing that he and Jiang gave after their talks, held in Beijing.

The Russian leader said prospects for further Russian- Chinese relations were outlined during the summit and practical aspects of Russian-Chinese strategic partnership were discussed.

The agenda also included international issues, among them global and regional stability and Russian-Chinese cooperation in combating international terrorism.

In a comment on the recent 16th congress of the Chinese Communist Party, Putin expressed confidence that "continuity in our relations will serve the interests of the peoples in Russia and China in the new century as well."

Jiang called the results of the talks "very good and serious" and voiced confidence that Russia and China would be "good partners" forever.
