MOSCOW. Dec 3 (Interfax-AVN) - About half enlisted men's barracks are more than 20 years old and want overhaul, a competent source in the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax- Military News Agency Tuesday.
There are enlisted men's barracks in more than 9,200 military compounds across the nation. Part of the buildings are hired, they belong to municipal formations of other state services. About 29 percent of the buildings have been operated for more than 50 years and want immediate overhaul, the source said.
He also said that the situation is also no good in the Navy (about 15,000 buildings, which constitutes above 48 percent) and the Air Force (about 10,000 buildings - more than 36 percent).
The worst military districts in this respect are the Siberian and Far Eastern, with 39 and 35 percent of living buildings in emergency, respectively.
The source also said that every year underfunding of repairs in the Armed Forces increases the emergency area by 4 to 5 percent.
