Russian airborne chief visiting paratrooper brigade in Volga region

MOSCOW. Dec 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Airborne Commander Georgy Shpak has arrived in the city of Ulyanovsk with a group of officers in order to control the beginning of combat training in units of the 31st separate permanent-readiness paratrooper brigade, a competent source in the Airborne Staff told Interfax- Military News Agency on Tuesday.

"During the four-day working trip to Ulyanovsk, the commander will check the realization and conduction of combat, mobilization and airborne training in units of the 31st separate airborne brigade, visit classes in mobilization readiness within separate battalions, and meet with officers of the brigade," the source said.

Shpak is also supposed to meet with this year's graduates of higher military educational establishments and discuss personal issues with servicemen and their family members.

"The airborne commander is expected to meet with Ulyanovsk Region Governor Hero of Russia Vladimir Shamanov and discuss cooperation between the brigade's command and city administration in solving housing problems," the source added.
