Russian govt approves draft agreement with Poland on aid in chemical disarmament

MOSCOW. Dec 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian government has issued a resolution approving the draft agreement with the Polish government on cooperation in destroying chemical weapons.

The Russian Ammunition Agency is instructed to work in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry in talks with Poland, the government information department reported on Tuesday. Upon coming to terms, the Ammunition Agency is authorized to sign the agreement on behalf of the Russian government.

The draft agreement says, in particular, that Poland will provide gratuitous aid to Russia in construction of chemical weapons destruction facilities on the Russian territory. The aid will be rendered through R&D, development, production and supplies of specialized tools and other assets, and provision of materials and services.

In the first year of the agreement's validity, Poland will allocate PLZ400,000 (USD100,550) for implementation of the first project written into an executive agreement. Other nations signatories to the Convention for the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of All Types of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction can also provide aid in the framework of the Polish assistance program on the basis of bilateral accords, the draft document reads.

The Ammunition Agency is authorized to implement the agreement on behalf of Russia and the Polish Foreign Ministry will implement it on behalf of Poland.
