STAVROPOL. Dec 4 (Interfax-AVN) - An illegal attempt to enter Russia from Azerbaijan was prevented in the area of responsibility of the Derbent detachment reporting to the North Caucasus regional border guard department.
"Two Azerbaijani citizens both aged about 25 were detained by a border guard patrol on Tuesday when attempting to cross the Russian-Azerbaijani state border," the department's press service chief Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Livantsov told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"Both detainees were taken to the post for thorough investigation and checking their involvement in illegal armed formations," Livantsov said.
He stressed that a 46-year-old Azerbaijani woman was detained in the Yarag-Kazmalyar checkpoint for producing an alien passport.
According to Livantsov, planned operations aimed at strengthening the protection of the Russian border, including its Chechen section, took place in the department's area of responsibility on Tuesday. Manning and harmonization of a special purpose unit intended for mobile covering of the Russian-Georgian border are underway as well.
