Declaration on Russian-Indian strategic partnership development signed in New Delhi

NEW DELHI. Dec 4 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Vladimir Voronin and Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee have signed a declaration on the development of strategic partnership between Russia and India and a joint declaration on the development of economic and technological cooperation between the two countries.

The declaration on the development of strategic partnership states that the two countries are determined to raise their strategic partnership "to a higher and qualitatively new level, both in bilateral and international relations."

In this declaration, Russia and India also said that the central role of the UN on ensuring international security in a multi-polar world should be strengthened.

The declaration backs the Russian president's initiative to hold a world conference on climatic change in Moscow in autumn 2003.

Russia and India have called for multilateral negotiations on the preparation of an all-inclusive agreement on the non- deployment of weapons in space.
