MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax-AVN) - The Council of Europe is currently working on a protocol to a treaty on the suppression of terrorism that should prevent terrorists from relying on politics to escape punishment.
Its Deputy Secretary General Maud Frouke de Boer-Buquicchio said at a Friday news conference at the Interfax main office that an important meeting is now taking place at the Council of Europe that is discussing the draft protocol. If it is approved, terrorists will no longer be able to rely on politics to be immune to punishment, she said.
However, she said the text of the protocol is not yet final.
In her opinion, Denmark refused to expel Chechen separatist emissary Akhmed Zakayev because it did not receive sufficient evidence of the charges brought against him.
